FAQ - For Persons Seeking a Massage
FAQ - For Therapists Placing an Ad
How do I use your site to find a Massage Therapist?
Using Massage Therapy Pages to find a therapist is easy. Just use our home page to find a featured therapist
in your area, or use our full search functionality on the "Find a Therapist" page.
Why isn't my city listed in your data base?
We currently use searches by major metropolitan area. Please select the cities closest to yours to locate
therapists.
How do I choose the right massage therapist?
You should first ask yourself what type of therapist you are looking for. There are many different types of
therapists, some specialize in relaxation (usually referred to as Swedish), some are very good at relieving
tight muscle pain (usually referred to as Deep Tissue), etc. Feel free to ask your therapist specific questions
about what you hope to achieve from the session so you are both clear on what the desired result will be.
How do I send an email to a Massage Therapist?
Just look for the send email link on each therapist's profile page. If you do not see a link to email
on a profile then that therapist has chosen to not be contacted via email.
Do massage therapists have to be licensed?
In most states or cities, there is a requirement to be licensed to perform massage therapy. The licensing
varies widely however
What types of massage are there?
There are many types of massage, some can be integrated together and some are better done by themself. To
learn more about massage, review our benefits of massage page.
What is not included in a therapeutic massage?
Your therapist should disclose what will be included in your massage profession. They will try to address your
needs best to their abililty. Ask your therapist for further details.
What body parts are massaged and do I have to be undressed?
Each therapist and municipality will have a different policy on draping. Some states/cities require
that the groin area and breast area(for women) be covered at all times. Nudity or wearing underwear also
depends on each state and/or therapist. Most table massages require that you take off at least part of your
clothing, however chair massage usually doesn not. Feel free to discuss with your therapist how your
massage will be performed.
What do terms like "Full body massage" mean?
The term "full body massage" has sometimes taken a negative meaning. A professional therapist will do their
best to cover all of the areas of the body you request in a non-sexual manner. If there is a specific part of your
body that you are unsure of being massaged, feel free to ask your therapist about it.
What is the difference between an incall and an outcall?
Incalls are where you go to the massage therapist in their office, studio or place of work. An outcall is where
the massage therapist will come to where you are.
How is payment arranged?
Each therapist has listed the forms of payment they accept in their profile. Depending on your type of payment,
the therapist may ask you to pay in advance or after the massage. Each therapist/office/studio has different policies
on payment and you should ask how the therapist you select operates.
When should I or should I not get a massage?
Massage Therapy has become recognized as a treatment for many different types of issues in recent years. However,
there are times you should not get a massage, including if you are ill(unless you have a doctor's permission), intoxicated,
injured or have other concerns. If you are in doubt, discuss the situation with your massage therapist to see if a massage
is appropriate for you at this time. Remember, when in doubt, ask your physician.
How much does a massage cost and do I tip?
A one hour massage ranges widely in the USA. In some smaller cities you might expect to pay around $40 for
a one hour massage in the therapists place of work. In larger cities, a one hour massage may run up to $125 an hour.
Remember, an 'outcall'(where the therapist comes to you) will usually cost more as the therapist has to pay for
transportation expenses and sometimes parking to perform the massage.
Will the massage hurt?
Before proceeding with a massage, you should always be clear with the therapist what type of massage you
are seeking. Relaxing, Swedish massage should most likely never have any pain associated with it. However,
deep tissue can cause some discomfort as the therapist attempts to release knots and taught muscle bands. A
massage should never hurt to the point where you risk injury or cannot tolerate it. Let your therapist
the amount of pressure that's right for you to ensure best results.
What if a massage wasn't quite what I wanted?
If you feel the massage is not turning out as you had hoped, make sure to communicate this with your therapist.
It is better to tell them sooner rather than later. Even though a therapist is trained to understand the human
muscular system(kineseology), they can never actually feel what you do. Be very clear in what body parts are
affecting you and the type of massage you wish to have performed. It is ok to talk during a massage if you need to
communicate to the therapist.
How do I get Technical Support?
